Writings, Thoughts and Happenings

I was born in the late 1970s. I grew up in West Virginia, went to five different schools for undergraduate in three different states, finishing at the University of Pittsburgh. I had obtained degrees in English Literature and Film Studies, and had satisfied or nearly satisfied requirements for a multitude of minors. Then, upon realizing that I would need a day job in order to be able to chase my dreams in these two fields, I chose to go to law school. I am out of law school now. I live in Pennsylvania now. To know the rest you'll have to read on a bit.

Georgia on my mind

Back to the real world, or so it is as I perceive it . . . .

Alright, so I first sent my request to the Georgia department of motor vehicles to get my riving records sent to Pa so that I could be certified as a fit character to practice law in the state of Pennsylvania.

How this works is that Pennsylvania wants me to not only pass the bar exam, but also disclose all of my driving and crimial records. Also, I must recorded evidence sent from every state in which I have ever breathed send confirmation of these records.

I sent such a request for both driving and criminal records to Ga. It sent back the driving request, asking for my Ga drivers' license number. I was perplexed, as I had stated in my letter that I needed records from every state in which I had lived for more than six months, with or without a driver's license. I called. I was told that this was the stupidest request thay had ever heard of. I checked the Pa bar requirements again. I need such evidence.

So I sent a letter defining more clearly what I needed, and explained that if they have no such records, then all I need is a letter explaining this to be sent to Pa.

So I waited about 6 weeks. Then I got another letter back explaining that my money order was now more than 30 days old, and they could not use it. I must send a fresh money order to them, since they do not accept personal checks.

But I ask you, how long must this go on?! If they sat on my request once, then what is there to make me think that it will not happen again? Must I drive down there? Is this a one-time thing, and if so, why me? I cannot be the first person to make such a request, as almost all states request this information. Surely some people have gone to school in Ga and not gotten driver's licenses there, but upon applying to the bar of some other state, needed said info.

But the bar results are supposed to be released soon, and I have heard that some states do not release any test scores until after all of the character and fitness info is all in, like NC. What if Pa is like that? How long will this thing take? Do I need to drive 8+ hours to fix this? What recourse do I have if this takes too long? None! I want my records sent, and I want my results released unimpeded.

Oh, and while eating my Blue Creek Special sandwich last night, I bit into a whole twist tie from a bread package. I had nearly swallowed it before I realized that it was not edible. I could have choked. The sad thing is that I finished the sandwich after this-- I was so hungry. Maybe there is something wrong with me, and I should be glad that there is, at least, nothing in either my criminal records or my driving records. I should just be glad that there is no request for a psych evaluation. Who finishes a sandwich in which she had just found metal garbage?

But then, why shouold it be so difficult to get blank records sent to the Pa board of bar examiners? Send them blank paper with my name at the top. I have sent money, now send the records! Argh!

Okay, going to knit. Calmer now.

Argh!
