Writings, Thoughts and Happenings

I was born in the late 1970s. I grew up in West Virginia, went to five different schools for undergraduate in three different states, finishing at the University of Pittsburgh. I had obtained degrees in English Literature and Film Studies, and had satisfied or nearly satisfied requirements for a multitude of minors. Then, upon realizing that I would need a day job in order to be able to chase my dreams in these two fields, I chose to go to law school. I am out of law school now. I live in Pennsylvania now. To know the rest you'll have to read on a bit.

I Love Hee-Haw and I am Proud of That

I managed to catch an advertisement for Hee-Haw, digitally remastered. The show ran from 1969 to 1993. Surely everyone my age remembers Hee-Haw as that show that came on just before The Dukes of Hazzard on Saturday Night.

The jokes were corny, but funny. I really liked a lot of the songs that were used on a weekly basis-- like where the women sit around and sing that they "really are not the gossipping kind/ You'll never hear one of us repeating gossip/ So you'd better be sure and listen close the first time."

For several months in undergrad, I answered my phone by saying, "Kornfield County Operator's Service. This is Irlene. How may I place your call?"

I even like the "salutes" to small towns across the country, and "Gloom, Despair and Agony," as well as "Where, Oh, Where are You Tonight?"

Oddly enough, during a skit in college (in Georgia) I was able to remember all of the words to these little ditties-- well, the choruses, as the verses changed to accomodated different jokes on a weekly basis.

If I ever get another law job-- and I will-- I will buy the Hee-Haw digitally remastered collection.

I love this little show and it brings back vivid memories of my childhood and the feeling of waiting for my favorite television show. It was a Saturday night tradition, and it made me happy. I even began to watch the older episodes, "Hee-Haw Silver," in high school on TNN. These were aired between 1 and 2 in the morning on Sundays. Hee-Haw will always be associated with Saturday nights for me-- like seeing that ad tonight. Saturdays.

"Gloom, despair, and agony, oh me.
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery.
If it weren't for bad luck,
I'd have no luck at all.
Gloom, despair, and agony, oh me."
