Well today I had to do one of the hardest things I have ever done. I had to put my dog Sabrina down. Her arthritis had just gotten so bad that it was heart breaking to watch her. She could barely stand up, never mind remain standing. *sigh*

Charlie and I spent the afternoon with her before bringing her to vet at 5pm. When we got there I held her in my lap until the doctor came in to give her a sedative. This pretty much put her out in a matter of seconds. Charlie then picked her up and put her on the table. We pet her and talked to her until the doctor came in to put her down. We couldn't bear to watch so we said our finaly goodbyes and left, teary-eyed. I know I made the right decision and she is in a much better place. She was a great dog and she will be sorely missed.

I adopted Sabrina in May of 1998. She had been abandoned at the kennel outside of Laguna Beach where I was keeping my dog Kyra. The owners of the kennel asked me if I would take her and after a week of hunting down Sabrina's owners, she was mine. She licked my ear the entire hour drive back to LA.

The paperwork said she was 12 years old when I adopted her though I doubt that is the case. She did have a small cataract in one eye and the other eye had been damaged through abuse. She also had little nubs for teeth, but she was a great dog. She rarely barked and she was a beautiful shade of red.

Kyra and Sabrina never got along as good as I hoped they would. They tolerated each other, at best. The first thing Kyra did when I brought Sabrina home, was to walk over to Sab's new bed and poop on it. Talk about a house warming gift. HA! I saw Kyra do it and the situation in itself was rather humorous. She even looked over her shoulder to make sure she wouldn't get caught.

Through the years Sabrina was quite a handful at times and was always good for a laugh. I thought I would post the top ten things I will remember most about her.

1) I will never forget her pancake dance (she LOVED pancakes).

2) She also would steal food while no one was looking. One time I left the room for a moment and she stole a muffin (one of those big Sam's Club/ Costco muffins) off of the middle of the kitchen table, ate the whole thing in seconds and was back on the couch before I returned. She totally had that look of "what muffin?" on her face, although she had crumbs all over her...

3) She killed a live chicken and ate half of it in the middle of the night. How a blind dog hunted down a chicken I will never know.

4) She got her foot stuck in a box from a 12 pack of beer once and did this hilarious dance trying to get it off.

5) She could always tell when I was upset and would walk over to me and lay her head on my leg. I like to think it was her way of hugging me.

6) She would only bark when she thought she wasn't getting enough attention. (later she only barked when she got stuck somewhere, or had wrapped herself up with her tie out leash)

7) She would inevitably step on my foot on her way out the door to go to the bathroom and no matter how many times I cut this dogs toenails they were daggers... Owie, ow, ow!!!

8) Two words: Brown Toe If you think hard enough you can imagine what that means... Luckily I wasn't the recipient of such a loving gesture. (Sorry Charlie)

9) This dog was the hairiest beast I had ever seen. I could probably make an effigy from all the hair that is left in the apartment right now.

10)She was so pretty. Everyone commented on how beautiful she was.

She was the sweetest, most kind dog ever. I know she is up in heaven making fast friends with everyone, running around and having a great time.

Kyra and Sabrina in Los Angeles.

Sabrina gearing up to do her pancake dance. She could smell them in the air.

Sabrina is always ready for the rainy season.

Sabrina during her Muslim phase. :)

Sabrina snuggled up on the couch.

Sabrina was quite the poker player, but she had a tendency to drink too much which is why she was booted from posing for that classic painting...

R.I.P Sabrina. Thanks for all the memories.
