So, Physics class was reviewing for a test on Monday, and took the test when I was home with LB on Tuesday. On Tuesday, while LB refused to nap, I was supposed to be working on lesson plans for the rest of the year for the class. When I did finally sit down to do them, I took a look at the textbook and determined that we'd pretty much finished everything that I felt the need to cover. We'd covered the CA science standards and there were only a couple of chapters left in the book that we hadn't touched upon, and they were stuff that most of these kids would care about even less than they cared about the stuff that really did have SOME relevance to their lives. But anyway, I'm getting off track.

After realizing that I didn't want to teach them stuff that's in their book, I asked myself, "Well, what DO you want to do?" And then I sat there and sat there and sat there. Finally I decided that sitting there feeling bewildered was NOT going to help.

On Monday, AP Physics had played with a bunch of my physics toys (broke my drinking bird ) and they were still at school. So today became play with Physics toys day. I did make them design one of their own as well, so it wasn't a complete fluff day. Some of them even did a good job of it.

Still, I was wondering what to do with the final 2+ weeks of school. I talked with a fellow teacher today and we tossed around a couple of ideas. Then I finally settled on one. My students are going to design and build a board game to review for the semester.

Then came the scramble. I can't just tell these kids that they are to design and build a board game and have them produce anything decent. So I set about looking for other teachers and how they did it. By pulling from the various stuff I found online, I was able to put together what I think is going to be a decent project guideline, including real due dates and everything.

So, now I have at least half of a clue about what I'm doing first period tomorrow. I think they'll turn out well. I hope they'll turn out well. Soon enough it'll be in their hands and they'll either turn out good stuff or crap.

OK, I think I need some sort of food and then some sort of sleep. Oh, and did I mention that during this evening's scramble, LB decided to wake up for a while? Well he did. Gee, and there he goes again. It's gonna be a rough night.
