We had our first swim class on Saturday and I can't figure out the boy. When we were waiting for class to start, he seemed to want to go into the pool, then when we were in the pool, he seemed to want out, once out he wanted back in.

Hopefully this week will be better. He didn't really mind being in the water, didn't get cold or anything, but he also sort of complained about being in it. If he was splashing or spinning or something he was fine, but just hanging around wasn't good.

He woke up again last night a couple of times, but once we left his noise generator on all night he slept through and so far he's done the same tonight. I've been told that this is the age when they start dreaming, so maybe that's just it and the familiar sound of the waves comforts him if he wakes up scared.

He's walking everywhere now, but is still fairly unstable, and easy to knock down. He doesn't seem to mind falling down, usually. He's still to take a major tumble though. So many other kids have had scrapes or bumps on their heads or whatever. He's not gotten any. I don't think we're overprotective, maybe he's just got a hard head. :)

His vocabulary seems to be increasing a lot lately. In the past few days, I think he's added a bunch of new words, including ball, cracker, berry, moon, down, and others which I'm currently forgetting.

I now know how other parents understand their own kids when I can't. Even my own parents can't understand him, and ask how I can. Some of it is context, and some of it is exposure. What he says may not actually sound like cracker, but I know he's asking for a cracker.

He met Cleo, my parents' large German Shepherd, last night. That seemed to go pretty well, Cleo was VERY careful around him. At one point he was directly in her path as she dashed after a tennis ball, and Cleo made a very nice curve around him. They had something in common, they both wanted the tennis ball. LB picked it up and I asked him to give it to Cleo, so he did. The next time, she took it from him instead, and my dad managed to snap a picture at the precise moment when LB's hand was in Cleo's mouth. Looks like she's biting off his hand, but she did nothing of the sort. He came away from that encounter unscathed, not even bothered by it. My parents seemed somewhat surprised that he wasn't scared of Cleo at all-she's probably 3-4 times his weight. He seemed a bit wary at times, but not so much so. I'm now confident that Cleo isn't a danger to LB at all though. It was fun to see him interact with Cleo, and I'm sure they'll spend more time together in the future.
