Today, LB got to bring home Courtney the caterpillar. His "assignment" was to write about their adventures together and to draw a picture. Sadly, he lost the paper he was supposed to use somewhere between school and meeting up with me, so we used just regular paper. I did have to call his teacher to find out what he was supposed to do. I figured they wanted more than just for Courtney to come home for a visit. He came in a nice basket too.

I should add that Courtney is a stuffed caterpillar that turns into a butterfly if you turn him inside out.

But anyway, the real purpose of this entry is to share what he wrote. See if you can figure it out, I'll even put in the spaces between words which he sometimes omitted. After working on it, scroll down further to see what it actually is.

Me and Kitrdme had a gid rid on the bes.
And wei witcd me dad pint me train.
Wie had lets ev fen.

What he said:
Me and Courtney had a good ride on the bus.
And we watched my dad paint my train.
We had lots of fun.

I was impressed that he did as well as he did-and with no help from us. I sat and watched but when he asked for letters, I refused to give them and just told him to write what he THOUGHT the letter should be.

I've noticed that he seems to have an aversion to the letters "A" and "Y". Either that or a love for the letter "E", I'm not sure which yet.

The way they teach the kids to write is by sounding out words and trying to figure out what letters they hear. It leads to some odd spellings, but he wrote a lot more than I expected him to, since I've never seen him figuring this stuff out at all before.
