I can't quite top yesterday's post about film scouts interested in my work (yet), and I'm drawing a blank. But for all you folks interested in a typical day, today's been pretty typical.

6:15. Alarm goes off. NPR has an article about the unbalance between the Democrats and the Republicans. John Conyers is saying that the Republicans had 150 hours of debate over President Clinton's mis-use of his holiday card list, but are only allowing 5 hours of debate over the problems at Abu Ghraib. I agree, but I hit snooze anyway.

6:25. Alarm goes off again. I get vertical.

7:00. Check e-mail. Hit a couple websites, checking my favorite blogs. This is an illness that I hope I recover from. I never thought it would happen to me, but I like Eric Mayer's blog, Paul Guyot's blog, Joe Konrath's blog, and Lee Goldberg's blog. Go figure.

7:35. Go upstairs and eat breakfast. Frosted Mini Wheats. Very high in fiber. A clean colon is a happy colon.

8:00. Walk the dog. It would be more aerobic if he didn't stop to pee or sniff or both every 10 yards.

8:35. Get home, start the kids on showers and make sure they eat something for breakfast.

9:00. Back in my office. Work on Genomics & Proteomics article about microfluidics. Third re-write, constantly trying to make it tighter and clearer.

10:00. Run off to Meijer's to buy padded mailing envelopes.

10:30. Back home. Work on novel. Goes well.

11:50. Upstairs to discuss lunch. Fix lunch. I have a ham and cheese pita, strawberries and potato chips. Sean has leftover pizza. Ian has a roast beef sandwich. Frodo drools next to the table and whines for table scraps. Spoiled mutt.

12:30. Check mail. It's arrived. No checks.

12:35. Back in the office. E-mail about graphics for microfluidics article. Go over a PowerPoint presentation trying to pick the best one. E-mail her for a brief interview.

1:00. Kids' friend comes over, they decide to go swimming. Not wanting any of them to drown, I move upstairs where I can supervise. I bring thank you notes I needed to send out after last week's Kansas City trip, the technical Journal I edit with the names and addresses of contributors, the padded envelopes, pens, and the chapter of the novel I wrote a draft of. I write the notes, address the padded envelopes, and scribble edits on the novel chapter.

2:00. Kids out of pool. I print up thank you letters to contributors and insert into padded envelopes with contributors copies of the journal, and prep to mail.

2:30. Do a phone interview with a financial advisor for an article I'm writing about buy now/pay later financial incentives.

3:00. I blog, therefore I am.

3:15. I finish blogging.

3:16. I will make changes in novel, print up the chapter, then transcribe the interview. Hopefully somewhere in the rest of the day I will also hear back from the graphics person, etc.
