I had my first Rotary Club talk promoting Dirty Deeds today. It started at 7:15 AM, so I was on the road at 6:00 to get there. The turnout was a little low--about 13 people--and I sold 6 books. Given the turnout, that was probably quite good, and what I made up for it in good will and community contacts probably more than makes up for it. That and good karma. The talk was well-received and several of the attendees asked if I was interested in talking to other Rotary Clubs and the Optimists, of which one of the members also belonged. I said sure, as long as it was later, because I was pretty busy in October. One member was a college professor and asked if she could give my name to one of her colleagues about talking to a class. See what I mean about contacts and good will?

At the same time, 6 books. This is a tough business and a hard way to sell your product. At the same time, as I mentioned earlier, you either do it and don't complain, or don't do it. So I'm doing it.

Overall? A good, positive experience. Great people. They fed me, though I don't like to eat much right before doing a talk. Sold a few books. Gave out bookmarks and business cards. Added to my guest book/mailing list and added to my Good Karma Bank.

And now? Back to work.

Best,
Mark Terry
