Mood:
Unvirtuous

One of the first groups I joined when moving west was the Scriptwriters Network. Through there, I met two people who have since become friends, one of who called me earlier this week.

I've helped Lynn on several Network-related projects, and we've taken a class together at the American Film Institute. She knows my work, and recently has been kind enough to pass one of my scripts to a couple of people. This particular script is a spec script for The Outer Limits. It's about two blue-collar women who, but an accident of proximity, become ambassadors to the human race in a less-than-perfect first contact situation.

If you want a challenge, by the way, try writing a story that revolves around two people in a box. That's essentially an Outer Limits spec -- a very small number of people in a very small number of sets. But I digress.

Lynn called me to give me the name and number of her own agent. This agent is with a boutique agency (only about three people, with a relatively small number of clients), and she works for her clients. She's been sending Lynn and another friend of mine to meetings, and submitting their work to a daytime drama project (which will consequently get both of my friends a paid writing assignment).

Lynn said many good things about my writing to her agent, now I just have to prove that I will be an asset to her. I called her agent back on Tuesday, but had to leave a message. Now I'm waiting for her to return my call. And, I must add, I'm waiting poorly. This is my first chance at solid representation in a very long time, and I don't want to annoy the agent by pestering, but I'm also VERY anxious to talk to someone who could actively help me get my career going.

Here's hoping she has the chance to call me back today, instead of having to wait the weekend...
