Fork-Tailed Devil
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Mood:
Incredulous

I just returned from a lunch meeting with John (the independent producer) who read my WWII script, FORK-TAILED DEVIL. In his words "it's the absolute best thing you've ever written."

He couldn't find a thing wrong with it. (Thanks, Jenn!) Not with characters, plot, anything. Strangely, I don't quite believe this. It doesn't seem possible that on my first time out with the script I got it completely right. Yes, I reworked it to or three times before exposing it to my critics, but still, there must be something I must have missed! No? Are you sure? Shouldn't you read that again?

John, reading it with his producer cap on, said the production value is superb (meaning that the film would cost relatively little to make), and it could (and should) be made for 30 - 50 million. The low production cost would allow a prodco to spend a lot of money on "above the line" costs (actors, directors, writers). Get a well-known actor attached, and the film would start heading towards "hit" territory.

John is going to personally hand-deliver the script to two individuals connected with Evolution, Morgan Creek and New Line, with his voluminous praise. John would kill to produce this himself, but he's currently committed to a sure-fire project that's two weeks away from getting full funding and a greenlight, so he can't commit to anything right now.

Let's see what the future brings!
