Things sometimes happen in odd ways, so I'm posting this here for the wry grin moment.

My spouse subscribes to Wired magazine. He came across an article on the SciFi channel's creature features. Wired interviewed the gurus behind such cinematic wonders as Mansquito, Snakehead Terror, Dragon Storm and Boa vs. Python. They talked about the SciFi philosophy, what they want in movies, how they want them set up, what their budget is -- all good stuff, if you happen to have a B-horror flick in mind.

Caveat: I'm not a fan of B-horror flick. But it is what it is, and there are levels of goodness and badness in them. Just don't ask me to categorize them.

As it happens, I'm friends with Ken Mader, the writer/director/producer of another cinematic gem, Carnivore. Ken's been putting together Carnivore II. (Why? Because there's a hungry market for B-horror movies and somebody will eventually pay him money to do what he loves to do - direct.)

My husband showed me the Wired article, I found it online, I forwarded it to Ken, who happens to know one of the guys interviewed, Ray Cannella. In fact, Ken and Ray were somehow connected on Ken's independent feature that I was helping with nigh on a year ago.

I guess that makes me two degrees separated from SciFi.

Anyway, Ken has read the article, applied the information there to Carnivore II, and was going to call Mr. Cannella this morning. I hope for an update after they've exchanged a couple of voicemails.
