A New Journal

Following Jenn Reeseâs lead, I decided to host my own online journal, Eric's Musings, using WordPress. Iâve toyed with the presentation of the journal a bit, but Iâm likely to customize it further. I was pleased to discover that I could import all of my LiveJournal entries (March 2005 through the present), and I just finished doing so. I donât think Iâll import my Journalsape entries, as there is no simple way to do it. I will likely continue to post to LiveJournal, but my Journalscape entries will stop effective today.

Fiction for Lone Star Stories

I have the pleasure of announcing that A.C. Wise's story "The Lady and the Tiger" will appear in the October issue of Lone Star Stories.

I still need three poems for the August issue, as well as two stories and three poems for the October issue.

Goblin Fruit No. 1 Reviewed

A very nice review of the inaugural issue of Goblin Fruit is up at SF Site. The reviewer particularly enjoyed the contributions of Mike Allen, Jennifer Crow, Kathy Sedia, and me.

Amal and Jessica are doing a great job with Goblin Fruit. I'm looking forward to reading/listening to the next issue.

Alchemy No. 3

I just received Alchemy No. 3 in the mail today, and I was pleased to note the strength of the ToC (work by such writers as Hannah Wolf Bowen, Theodora Goss, Sarah Monette, and Sonya Taaffe), the beauty of the cover art, and, in particular, that eight of the nine stories in the issue are written by women. This for a pro rate, print market. I just hope that Steve Pasechnick publishes the magazine again sometime. (I understand that it's closed for now.)

Over here, Charlie Finlay has put out a call for women sf/f authors to submit en masse to F&SF by August. I hope it leads to a marked increase in women appearing in future F&SF ToCs.

All of the fiction slots for the August issue are now filled. However, I still need three poems.

Sarah Prineas let me know tonight that "A Treatise on Fewmets," which was published in Lone Star Stories No. 10, will be included in Juno Books' Best New Paranormal Romance anthology.

I've been reading some discussions about the low percentage of women published in such magazines as The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, and those discussions led me to tabulate the author gender numbers for Lone Star Stories. Here's what I found:

Stories published: 23 by women; 23 by men

Poems published: 29 by women; 14 by men

All female authors issues: 2

All male authors issues: 1

All female fiction writers issues: 3

All male fiction writers issues: 4
