ah, love, the dire element in choice.
we chose,
perhaps in selfishness,
but for one lingering kiss,
not to save zion.

joined hands, joined hearts,
we walked into the wilderness.
and were the gates of the new jerusalem closed forever?
has the magic faded from the rose?

a sacrifice made,
let us then, shut from the empire of light,
dwell in this sacredness, beloved,
gentle and wild, tasting the joy in the wind,
splendour in the sea
where the bene elohim are dancing,
not in empires but in solitude,
a tiny candle in the dark
unexpected places
a flame we have committed
eternities to and welcome
with the selfsame devotion,
the struggle and the delight.

for every drop of blood
sprung from its source
to course
in the streams of these veins,
emerged with this one purpose,
this one irrefutable promise:
to love
and continue loving
forever.
