On any project like this, people play a big role in the experience. Below I shall list everyone currently here, all 15 of us.

I'm not going to talk about personal interactions or put down my opinions about anyone in this journal because of its public nature. Such things are best left for FTF discussions.

In no particular order:

John, the project leader, from UCLA. Makes the whole show run.

Hans, a Dutchman, married to an Egyptologist at UCLA; volunteer, has a stuffed racoon with him; ALWAYS wears a tie.

Brian, geophysicist, from UC-Riverside, makes all the high-tech gadgets work.

Doug, graduate student from Northwestern, has been working with John the past couple of years on this project.

Tara, graduate student, soil expert from Cal State Northridge, in charge of the power auger.

Ilana, about to become a grad student at UCLA, interested in Peru.

Steve, palaeobotonist from UCLA, here to do flotations and study seeds and plants found in trenches.

Charlotte, has been John's assistant for a while at UCLA, runs the soil analysis lab and gets the groceries.

James, age 15, Charlotte's grandson, working on archaeology merit badge; recently lost a boot down a fissure at Thingvelier.

Syd, just married Charlotte, works with setting up grids in fields and putting flags to mark grids so that people with sensing devices can navigate fields efficiently.

Bob and Joyce, married and retired couple who have been working with John for several years on projects in Denmark and Iceland.

Minna, Finnish grad student at UCLA, interested in Asian archaeology. Knows Finnish, Swedish, German, French, English and getting good at Chinese and Japanese.

Nilka, 26-year-old undergrad at Cal State Northridge, from Sri Lanka, knows John from a class or two.

And me, makes 15.

A few more people will be joining us during the course of the project, for more or less time. Occasionally we have guests for a day or two stay with us as well.
