Pixel_Pusher My Digital Life I am not a man of many words, so don't expect great things from me. I am a graphic artist/3d animator. I am not the artsy fartsy type - there is no hidden meaning behind what I do. I like things that make sense. |

2004-03-10 4:22 PM Warning: High levels of Geekdom Oh what a geek am I…
There are two very exciting things about to happen in my life as a computer geek. Things on the order of a personal paradigm shift. These things are Lightwave 8 and a plug-in called FPrime. Lightwave 3D, is a 3D program that I've had my head stuck into for years now. And it all started on my Amiga 2000 with a Videotoaster back in 1992 with version 2.0. It would slowly render out an image based on 3d models that I had placed in the “Layout”, then display them on the framebuffer of the VideoToaster. This, at the time, was an excruciatingly long process.. Back then, on a 50MHz 68040 processor, a raytracing benchmark scene would take 9.3 hours. Or more exactly, 33792 seconds. Todays processors will do that in about 85 seconds. Great right? Yea, except now, there are things such as Radiosity that brings todays processors to a screeching halt… Not fun, if you are simply wanting to test render so see how your scene is coming along, if the test render is going to take hours, But that's about to change.. On Friday, I get my copy of FPrime. Im guessing the guys that programmed this little gem, sold their souls to the devil or something. This plugin, its almost like building your scene, and seeing it rendered out in real time. Or close enough to it. No more waiting on test renders.. (download some of the videos.. you will be amazed...) Ahh.. The things I get hyped up about... I guess now I wont have much of an excuse to be a better animator huh?
