Hunter had a tantrum today.

He was upset because I told him that yes, I understood that he wanted juice, but he had already drunk his quota of juice for the day and he would be given water.

It wasn't one of those manipulative, "if I make enough fuss, I'll get my way" type of tantrums. I can recognize those pretty easily and respond to them with an indifferent, "Wa, wa, wa -- I don't think so."

No, he was truly and terribly upset because of how unfair the universe was treating him and that his own mother was denying him something he wanted. Life was just awful.

I tried comforting him and distracting him with some apple, but he was having none of it. He stormed off into the bedroom, wailing, and when I tried to follow him, he gently but very firmly pushed me out of the room, then ran back and flung his arms on the bed to cry his distress.

I left him for a couple of minutes, then went in to check on him. This time, he ran to my arms for comfort, having apparently sufficiently vented his frustration.

He's amazing. Have I mentioned I adore this little boy?
