Monday, April 3
(we were in Laughlin for a few days)

Naptime

I was sure he'd finally fallen asleep. Suddenly, he ripped his little pillow from behind his head, held it up in the air, and declared, "Hehyo, piyyo!"

Hunter describing our ride on the Colorado River on a water taxi

Me: Do you want to tell Daddy about our ride on the river boat?

Hunter: Ribbah. Boat.

Me: We saw ducks -- we saw baby ducks! And really big fish.

Hunter: Ducks. Fish.

Me: Do you remember the really noisy bird?

Hunter: Noizy. Buhd. Noizy. Duck.

Shawn: Quack quack quackquackquack!

Hunter (breaking into a huge grin): Daddy duck!

Thursday, April 6
(back home)

Taking Hunter for a walk while waiting for a prescription to be filled, making sure we stomped in as much slush and splashed in as many puddles as we could find.

At one point, a man with a craggy, weatherbeaten face stopped his pickup truck to allow us to cross the tiny street. I gestured that we weren't actually waiting to cross, then jumped up and down to illustrate that we were splashing in the big puddle right there. His whole face lit up with a grin of delight, and he beamed at Hunter as he slowly drove by.

Friday, April 7

Hunter: Boo. Behees.

Me: Would you like more blueberries?

Hunter: Boo. Behees.

Me: Can you say "please"?

Hunter: Pees.

I walk over and give him some more blueberries.

Me: Can you say "thank you"?

Hunter: Baku.

I kiss him on the top of his head.

Hunter (very pointedly): Baku.

Me: I'm sorry -- you're welcome.

Hunter (satisfied): Behcom.
