The most beautiful/awe-inspiring/gorgeous/overdone for a metro system: Moscow.

The scariest: Stockholm. Okay, it's scary when it's one in the morning and you're coming back from Monsters of Rock and all the two-story escalators are still and you've resigned yourself to the hike and step onto the metal plate at the base of the stairs and unknowingly set off the pressure switch such that the huge, sleeping monstrosity suddenly creaks into noisy, intimidating life. Almost gave me a heart attack.
