How to explain Thanksgiving to a toddler?

I told Hunter that Thanksgiving is when we get together with friends and family and eat a really big dinner and think about things that make us happy.

Thanksgiving night, after The Feast (we were staying with Shawn's aunt), I was helping Hunter settle down by going over things that make him happy. I was deliberately not asking him at this point because I was trying to help him fall asleep and didn't want too much interaction on his part, so I just recited things that I know he likes.

"Mama makes you happy.... Daddy makes you happy.... Hugs and kisses make you happy.... Sweet potatoes make you happy...."

At this point, Hunter broke in with, "And mashed potatoes! And ham! And turkey! And... and cranberries!!!"

Well, looks like he got at least part of What Thanksgiving Is.
