Today has had its ups and downs.

I'm sick and, even though I took the day off work, I spaced out on the computer and didn't take care of myself (i.e. lost track of time and didn't drink enough fluids or take enough elderberry, echinacea, zinc & C), so what had been a mild head cold has now progressed into yet another sinus infection. Joy.

I forgot to update the clock on my computer and shut down to go pick up Hunter from daycare at 4:45 only to discover, when I went into a room with a DST-set clock, that it was 5:45pm and I had 15 minutes to pick him up before they started to assess penalties (cf. about re: spacing and losing track of time.) I did make it, but it was very stressful.

I got locked in our bedroom. We've been having trouble with various parts of the door for a while, and the mechanism decided to completely seize up, leading to about 20 minutes of Shawn and I passing each other screwdrivers, a flashlight, etc. through the catdoor (yes, we have a catdoor in our bedroom, although it's been taped shut since before Hunter was born, since the cats tend to run around and/or sit on my head, which is not conducive to a good night's rest), trying to lever the door away from the frame (this was after unscrewed/removed the knob itself) until he did something that popped it open. I wasn't too terribly worried, since we do have an attached bathroom, and it's not too great a drop out the front window, if need be. But it's nice to have access, even if it looks like the cats will be chasing each other and sitting on my head tonight. (Maybe I'll sleep on the guest bed in the computer room....)

BUT, to even out the day, Shawn got me a Puzzle Center so I can work on jigsaw puzzles a little bit at a time (I find the clarity of pattern recognition to be soothing), then tuck it away so it's neither distracting when I'm trying to get other things done nor attractive to "I do it!" Hunter.

And, even cooler (IMHO; it's definitely more esoteric -- or eccentric, depending on your point of view), he also got me a bat house. I love bats, and I've wanted one of these for a while. Now we just need to figure out where to put it so we don't get guano in the spa....

All in all, I'd say it averages out to a pretty happy birthday.
