In honor of the occasion, here's a "professional quality" piece of work for free. Since I'm not experienced enough to know what of my unpublished work might be considered "professional quality," I'm choosing something for which I actually received payment and which originally appeared in the Eggplant Library (link is to announcement of sale; Eggplant itself may or may not still be around, since the domain supposedly exists but seems to be having DNS issues.)

As a bit of background, this was supposed to be an "excerpt" of a non-existent book ("A Tourist's Guide to the Sarettan Worlds.")

CORRACK

If your travels take you as far as the 4th planet in the system, make arrangements to tour the ruins of Corrack, an ancient city of the Satk'ra which has been the site of many important archaeological finds. In fact, much of our knowledge of this long-dead race has come from Corrack.

Accommodations ranging from budget pensiones to chain hotels can be found in the nearby town of Burfelt, a small community of scientists, artists and craftsbeings. In addition to the ruins, the town boasts an Opera house specializing in performances of ShinTang, a ritual form of melodic sneezing.

As we saw in Forkran on Saret III, you may run into some difficulties with local food. Most restaurants we visited did offer a Terran menu, although the presentation leaned toward the exotic. Be sure to visit the Burfelt Bakkaner and sample their delicious grubs, which are famous throughout the Sarettan planets.

Local transportation is provided by an efficient system of underground vacuum tubes and above-ground rickshaw service. Discount tickets are available in either a 7-ride book or a weekly pass easily obtained from the local tourist office (contact information listed in index.) The Corrack tours can also be booked at the tourist office, although it is recommended that you make reservations at least a Sarettan IV month in advance, as space is limited.

Shopping opportunities are primarily made up of local arts and crafts and replicas of Satk’ran artifacts of varying quality. Feel free to haggle with the salesbeings, and you may be able to pick up a bargain, especially in the bohemian Cafra district.
