I have a lazy person's compost heap: there's a section of my front yard, along the side fence, where I dump miscellaneous vegetable kitchen scraps and occasionally try to dig them into the soil a bit.

After two weeks of drenching thunderstorms interspersed with temperatures in the mid-80s, I am now apparently growing squash and melons.
