The "L" train series...

Cubs vs. Sox, round one.

Cubs take the opener on a walkoff home run from Aramis Ramirez, 4-3.

It may be the first time that the two Chicago baseball teams have both been in first place at the time of this interleague matchup, since the start of interleague play.

My Cubbies are a pretty good team this year. We're keeping our fingers crossed on the Zambrano situation (looks to be not too serious, but where have we heard THAT before? Kerry Wood. Mark Prior...) but even without big Z, we've got a pretty decent team and what looks to be fairly solid starting pitching with some depth there. We have Ryan Dempster, Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis with Sean Gallagher and Jon Lieber and Sean Marshall and Rich Hill in the minors. And we have a proactive GM who I hope will pull the trigger on an acquisition (Gil Meche from KC, maybe?) pretty soon, which would help whether or not Z comes back strong.

White Sox are pretty good, too. Their 4 and 5 starters turned out to be much better than hoped (John Danks and Gavin Floyd had shown lots of promise but little results before this year), and their top three have been solid. Their hitting has been sluggish but I believe it will come around, there are just too many good hitters there.

Could this be the year for an 'L' Train series in October? I'm hoping...
