Sad news from the world of genre fiction...

Tony Hillerman, the author of the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee Navajo mystery series, died Sunday (11/2/08) of pulmonary failure.

Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, The Andromeda Strain, and Congo, among many others, passed away on Tuesday (11/4/08) of causes related to cancer.

Both of these men were among my "must read" authors, Hillerman more than Crichton of late, but I will miss their brands of storytelling.

Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee have solved their last cases, and no more will we be exposed to the stark beauty of the Navajo world. I will miss it.
