Superbowl and the Boss

Well, it was a good game. I wasn't invested in the outcome at all. I sorta like the underdog Cardinals, but my son likes Pittsburgh for some reason (I think it has to do with when the Steelers played the Seahawks a couple years ago and he picked Pittsburgh when they had to choose one of the two teams to root for in his class), so I rooted for the AFC team. Also, I've heard that when the AFC wins, the stock market does well that year.

Hey, any little bit of mojo that can be generated for the market is good, right?

The halftime show was pretty good, too. I've been a big fan of Bruce Springsteen since probably the mid 1980's when I saw him in concert. (Before seeing him live, I thought his stuff was okay, but I wouldn't have characterized myself as a "big fan"...)

They've gone conservative the last few years in the Superbowl shows, with artists like Petty, McCartney, Prince, and the Stones turning in solid 12 minute sets, and this year was no exception. Bruce was solid, it was a good performance, but I wouldn't call it "great". I don't know what COULD be great in the span of those 12 minutes.

The shows are definitely geared toward older rock fans like me, and those younger fans who have become classic rock afficionados. I'm okay with that. There's only so much Brittany I can take. Or Justin. Or Backstreet Boys or N'Sync or whatever else. Straight ahead rock and roll works for me.

I'm currently reading (finally!) TWO FOR JOY by Mary Reed and Eric Mayer. So far, it's really enjoyable!
