Just when you think you know something...

I was perusing the "My Amazon" feature of the online giant, and it recommended that I look into the newest Paul McCartney release, which turns out to be a four song live thing he did in a coffee shop or something like that, called 'Amoeba's Secret". From there I found "The Fireman" and his CD Electric Arguments (another McCartney project, apparently "the Fireman" is one of Paul's alter-egos) and then I found some communities for Paul McCartney fans, and for Beatles' fans.

Both of which I consider myself to be.

I didn't grow up a Beatles fan. I wasn't really exposed to their music on a large scale until college. I mean, we played "Birthday" in one of the garage bands I was in in HS, but I really didn't listen to much of their stuff beyond tunes like "Help" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".

I did, however, become a McCartney fan at an early age. I recall hearing "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" at a fairly young age and loving that song. Then I bought "Ram", which contained that song and several other very good tunes. And then it was on to several 45 singles, and purchases of "Band On The Run" and "Venus And Mars", etc etc.

In dental school, I played with some guys who were big fans of the Beatles, and we were doing a bunch of their songs, nothing real obscure, mostly stuff like "Twist and Shout", "I Saw Her Standing There", "I'm Down," "Eight Days A Week", and one or two others. But after dental school, I fell in with a drummer who was a HUGE Beatles fan, even to the point of copying Ringo's set. It was through him and his pointing me at various songs that I really got hooked. Now I pretty much have all their CD's (and several of their LP's that I didn't sell off at garage sales), and a few books about them and songbooks of their tunes.

So I'm reading these discussions in the Beatles "community" at Amazon, and I realize that I don't know squat compared to most of these posters!!! They're listing songs by Harrison and Lennon that I don't even KNOW! And though I know almost all of the McCartney songs they list, I don't know them in the depth that they do!

Just goes to show you, there's always someone, or a bunch of someones, who knows more than you do!
