Best Valentine's Day Present Ever

Well, DeLurk Day turned into DeLurk Weekend. Thanks to everyone who came out of the woodwork to say hi!

Jack and I did not go out to dinner for Valentine's Day. He did not buy me flowers, or chocolate, or jewelry. He did not rub my feet or make tender passionate love to me.

Instead he watched Fear Factor while Kat and I edited a fifteen page partial manuscript. I love him. He's a keeper.

You see, on Sunday Jack passed me a section of the newspaper and said, "Hey, honey, there's a writer's conference in New Orleans in May." I took the paper from him and dutifully read the ad, expecting it to be the usual literary crowd that looks down its nose at speculative fiction. But in the blurb it said, "All genres," but more importantly, it said, "First 100 partial manuscripts received will get a one-on-one with an editor or agent." Hmmm.. I pulled up the website and looked at the list of editors and agents. Hmmmm again. It was all big names, big publishing houses. I called Kat. "Hey, you know this novel we've been plinking away at?"

Jack said, "Valentine's Day is about showing someone how much you love them, how much you support them. You go and work on that tonight. We'll go to dinner another night." My god, he is such a keeper.

So last night was spent in a frantic rush of editing and rewriting, trying to squeeze a decent partial into fifteen pages. Jack understood and stayed out of the way.

I love him.
