The incredible edible

Well, the same day that Annna stayed home from daycare with my stepdaughter, she developed a truly spectacular head-to-toe rash. I came home at lunchtime and my stepdaughter pointed it out to me, which is when I realized that she'd been displaying other signs of an allergic reaction before I left, e.g. scratchy eyes, runny nose and cough.

See, I'd been gunning for the "Worst Mommy In The World" award and had unthinkingly given Anna a few bites of my eggs while I was eating breakfast.

Bad Mommy. BAD MOMMY. You're not supposed to give egg whites to babies until they're one, you fucking moron!

I already had an appointment with the ped to have Anna's ears checked, so I took her down a bit early. My poor baby was so miserable from the hives and rash that I stripped her down to her diaper and just dressed her in a loose kid-sized t-shirt. Yes, I was going for that total White Trash look. The ped checked her out and confirmed that yes, she did have another ear infection starting up. And then she ran a bunch of other tests to see if she had any "testable" viruses that might have caused the rash. She told me that she wasn't convinced that the eggs were the culprit and that it was more likely that it was due to a virus, but also referred me to an allergest. However, my mommy-instinct (yes the same wonderful mommy-instinct that fed my child eggs in the first place!!) tells me that it was the eggs, considering the timing of the onset of symptoms and also the fact that the rash was almost completely gone by that night, and was completely gone by the next morning.

So, next Friday we see the allergest to find out for certain. Until then, Anna has been put on the "allergic" list at daycare. Sigh.
