Creeping back to civilisation

Our power came back on at about 5pm Saturday evening. I saw that the bathroom light was on and I screamed, "JACK!!! THE POWER'S ON!!" We immediately ran across the street to tell our neighbors (since they had their generator hooked up to their main box, so they couldn't tell when it came back on.) And then Jack proceeded to dance in the front yard singing, "Glory Glory Hallejuh!"

However, our cable is still out which means I have no internet of my own at home, and unfortunately it looks like another month before it's restored. Over the weekend I warjacked our neighbor's wireless connection (he has DSL), but I think that we're going to end up ditching cable and switching to satellite for TV, and will have DSL hooked up. The previous owners of the house had satellite and DSL, and so we already have the dish, and the DSL connections in place, so it should be fairly painless to switch over. I think that the cable company is going to lose a lot of customers because of this.

We're also back to a fairly normal schedule at work. Anna's day care suffered roof damage and is therefore closed for the next several weeks, which meant that Jack and I were scrambling over the weekend trying to find daycare for her. Last week we had high standards. By Sunday we were merely hoping for a place that didn't OPENLY sell crack. Fortunately, though, Jack got a recommendation from someone at work and we found a lady who has an immaculate house who does childcare (cash basis, y'know?). We visited her yesterday and were extremely impressed with the house, with her, with her setup and policies, and are now kinda wishing we could afford to keep Anna there permanently. :) Oh well. At any rate, it is a HUGE load off of my mind to not have to worry about that.

Today I need to apply for FEMA aid, take pictures of our damaged fence and chimney, call the insurance company for my house in Slidell.. Sigh. SO much to friggin' do.

At least we have power. I can take hot showers again.
