Cut Your Goat

So tonight after workshop some of us went over to Turtles and hung out. Eric Witchey after too long of an absence from workshop was there tonight and Jay was conspicuously missing (he usually has a bag full of goodies for the news portion of the evening). Anyway, topics of discussion included researching zeppelins and how much fun it is. The grace and tragedy of zeppelins. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of great stories written for that anthology. Talk even drifted to the Whirling Dingleberry Award (think style monkey).

We even talked about Jay Lake's story The Goat Cutter. Many remember that story as Jay's first story submitted to the workhop. It's gotta be one of the most memorable stories among the Wordos. It's one of Jay's Texas dirt stories, powerful, dark, and lyrical. The Goat Cutter is in Greetings From Lake Wu and I think that's one of main reasons why I wanted to get my hands on the collection. It's a horrifying story to revisit but I wanna see if it's all that I remember. Read again the power of the words and the power of the story.

If you haven't read The Goat Cutter yet, do it. Let me know what you thought about it in the comments secion.

Now I think I'll go read it before bed.
