Resolute

I usually don't get into resolutions, but this year I seem to be in a resolution mood. Out of the thoughts and ideas fluttering inside my head, these are the ones I can grab onto:

Have one mailing/marketing day each week. I've been horrible at keeping short stories in the mail while working on novels and thinking about novels. This will keep me on track if each week I see what story has been returned, what needs to go out, and if I don't have any short stories to send, what about novels? Queries, proposals, etc. I don't have to write new words on a mailing day. I'm thinking Sunday would be a good mailing day and that would be prep, of course. I'd go to the post office when it's open on Monday.

Daily record of writing expenses. Piling up receipts in odd places is not working for me. Books and movies can be claimed on my taxes, for example, and keeping a daily log would help me keep on top of this. This shouldn't take much time each day, seconds on most days. Also, in keeping with business and record keeping, I should log my work habits, time spent writing and sending. As the Flylady says: "Just Fifteen Minutes."

I also have a resolution in the realm of tango: ask others to dance instead of exclusively dancing with Ximena. What can I say, the wallflower from high shool (and after) is still inside me. It would benefit us, if I dance with other partners. It would benefit our tango.

I haven't come up with a resolution for raw wordage. I'm always working on the discipline at keeping writing, so I'm not going to state any goal yet. However, there is that goal of mine to have a finished novel to pitch at this year's Surrey conference. There's that.

This is just the first day of the new year. More to come.
