We got to hear our baby's heartbeat for the first time yesterday.

Jen had her appointment at the doctor's office yesterday afternoon, and during the visit we were able to hear the baby's heartbeat on a small Doppler system. It took a minute for the doctor to find, but it was very distinct when she finally did home in on it. Not quite what I expected - it sounded less like the normal "thump-thump" I'm used to hearing, and more like a "swish-swish" sound instead... kind of like a washing machine or an old-school Cylon Raider. Still, there it was, strong, loud, and steady.

On top of that, I actually felt the baby move last night. I was giving Jen a backrub, and she told me to put my hand on her belly. Sure enough, there was a slight fluttering movement there, punctuated by the occasional shaper poke.

It was so cool. :)
