By popular demand, this journal will cover my summer archaeological adventures in York, England, and Borgorose, a site about 50 miles from Rome. Since I'm working on two projects this year, and the most commmon thing between them is Romans, I've so named this journal.

At York I will be working as staff with the York Archaeological Trust for some two weeks on a medieval site that has been excavated deep enough to reach Roman materials. This is the fifth and final year of the project, and I'm excited by the chance to work on an urban project. York was called Eboracum by the Romans, and they have a festival to celebrate it in late July, which I'll miss by a month.

After York, I'll fly over to Rome and join Bernie Frischer, an ex-UCLA professor whom I know from my time there a few years ago, on a rural site called Borgorose. Most likely this small survey project will determine that this was once a standard Roman villa, but we won't know for sure until we look. In addition to helping with this project, I'll be doing some specialized photography at Bernie's previous site, Horace's Villa, for publication on DVD.
