Just got back here to my B&B room from dinner at almost 9 pm, and the sun doesn't look anywhere near like it's ready to set yet, but I'm gonna hit the sack early anyway and head off the jetlag.

All the pubs around here are packed with football fans because there's an important cup match tonight, so I dropped in to the local Pizza Hut for a big salad instead of braving the crowds for pub fare. I had hoped to find a better place, but everything else has closed, probably because it's a Sunday evening.

After visiting the Internet cafe briefly for the previous entry, and not being able to check my mail despite downloading and installing Firefox on their machines, I walked back and forth and forth and back through town, mostly shopping (but bought only a belt because I forgot mine), but also sightseeing. Didn't even carry my camera, since it's familiar stuff to me. Will get photos for y'all in the next couple days I expect.

I kept walking and walking because it felt good, it's fun seeing all the ancient buildings, the weather's so balmy, and I didn't want to fall asleep yet.

Came back to my B&B room and unpacked. Thankfully the landlord gave me a larger room, a double actually, for the same price since my stay of 17 days is pretty long. It's still hard to move around in here with the huge bags in the way. I still have to share a water closet and shower with someone else, but that's not a surprise.

The Panoscan worked on the first attempt, but rebooting the iBook didn't. It failed again, requiring yet another installation of the OS. The new boot CD won't work around that, I found out, because it also doesn't see the hard drive in that case. Maybe this problem was caused by an OS upgrade -- this will be the opportunity to find out as I cannot get the latest OS upgrades now.

This system will be untenable if it continually fails to reboot, which happens terribly often these days.

Oh yeah -- blew out my power strip and surge protector too, with a loud scary pop and cloud of acrid smoke that took a while to leave the room. Now I have to go find an adapter for a three-prong plug if the new dual iBook battery recharger is to be of any use.

Well, to bed now. With luck the lab will have its own Internet connection and this will get uploaded in the morning, but otherwise it will be later.
