2004-07-04 1:42 PM Thankful I have a holiday to bypass Mood: slightly self-pitying, yet thankful Read/Post Comments (1) |
Hey, Rob: Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. :) The 4th. It's my favorite holiday. Yes, more than Christmas or Thanksgiving; even more than my own birthday (which I DO recognize as a holiday - just ask any past professor). I love it. I love it all. Flags, red / white / blue, family, friends, baseball, fireworks, barbequeing - seriously, there is NOTHING I don't love about it. This year, sad to say, I am forced to let it go by. The ominous Bar Exam has come, dreadfully, within a few weeks and I must forge forward - without my beloved 4th. I must acknowledge the existence of Corporations Law and pay homage to "my Waterloo", the MBE. I briefly wallowed in my puddle of self-pity this morning, but then realized there was little need to do so. There are Americans out there giving their lives to ensure that this holiday continues to be celebrated each and every year - I can pay my respects to them and to my flag without ever having to leave my home. True, I prefer not to, but celebrating the freedoms I do have can be done right here. Thank you. Thank you to those who have, those who do, and those who will serve this country and provide "the blanket of freedom I sleep under". Regardless of politics, regardless of views on the war, and regardless of racial / religious / cultural backgrounds, today is a day to pay my respect to those who serve in the military and government. Even if we may not like the present, without the past, we wouldn't even have these things to disagree about. So, to my own dad, 'Pops', my grandfathers and their predecessors, Uncle Mike G., Uncle John L., Jim B., Alicia P., Drew N., Paul N., Joe Z., Jim Z., John R., and countless other friends and family who have served, a heartfelt, "Thank you." Without you, I wouldn't even have the holiday to miss. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
