2004-10-15 7:17 PM Advice, please? Mood: full (I ate too much sushi) Read/Post Comments (5) |
Hey, Rob: Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. :) As I was out working the 25th District today with Bush and McKeon signs, I got a call from the attorney who needs an assistant to work on a HUGE case going to trial. This is the fellow Pepperhead. He wants more than the SEVEN references I already gave him; he wants Pepperdine professors. Only Pepperdine professors. Okay. I have no problem doing that; I can easily provide profs for reference. Weird, but whatever makes him happy. I am stoked about the job with Lisa, but I am wondering if I should take this other... I would appreciate any feedback, but let me explain the haps - if I take Lisa's job, it pays crap for a month then moves up the scale; Lisa says if you hound him enough he will give bonuses and raises (when earned obviously); the hours are pretty flexible; and it is an indep contractor position so I could work that to my advantage via certain tax deductions and write-offs. The downside to the position is that it is in Long Beach, he does not guarantee full time all the time, and the pay is less than I made pre law school. This second offer (if that is what it turns out to be) pays more, is closer to where I live (not that I mind a commute since I like the decompression time in my car), it is incredible experience preparing for such a significant trial, and it has potential to an attorney/mediator position down the road. The downside to this one is, frankly, how hinky this guy has been with the interview and follow-up process. He never called a single reference I provided (after making such a big deal about it) and he avoided some pretty significant questions during the interview. I just dunno. I would hate to leave Lisa or her boss in a lurch, but I have to decide what the best course to take is going to be for me. Of course, I am going to provide the professor references, but I don't know that he will even call them. Either way, who knows if he is serious about offering me the position. I am just trying to prepare for any contingencies. I know I cannot plan or act until I hear from him definitively. I already committed to Lisa and I take that very seriously, but I also know I have to look ahead. If I plan to keep her position for six months (which her boss knows) and I could potentially turn this other into a career, I know what I have to do. There is just something that seems "off" with this most recent one... What do you think? Any and all input is totally appreciated!!! On a lighter note, I just met Johnny for sushi. Rob refuses to go near it, so I resort to other friends for the enjoyment. Ate too much of it though. Da** that Dynamite sushi - I can never say no to it. All day I worked with Matt to get out more signs through the SCV for McKeon and Bush. Man oh man, we put up sooooo many! Tomorrow there is a group getting together to do the Antelope Valley and Victorville. After, we are going to BBQ at Ceasar's house. Yummy... His kids already set up the BBQ pit and grills. Mmmm... s'mores... *drools* Rob and I are planning to get together tomorrow night - I want to see Team America. Puppet sex? Oh please, how in the world can that warrant an NC-17 rating??? Apparently, the creators (of South Park) changed the scene by making it more sexually explicit and won the "R" rating. Hrmm... Interesting. Sunday - sleep (I hope).
