Very quick entry before I head out to a doc's appointment...

Today is the ever elusive VD (thanks to Larry for pointing this out), which I regard with the utmost disgust. I do not respond well to being told when or how to do something, that includes telling someone I love him. I do not need to send candy, flowers, have a date, or otherwise entrap myself within the web of commercialization. Valentine was an incredible (and quite real) person. He stood up against a tyrant for the sake of love. I admire him for his fortitude. I like that there is a holiday named for him. I do not like the quagmire of guilt that is heaped upon people that choose not participate in the commercial aspect of the holiday.

Yes, folks, I have the same attitude with regard to Christmas - Jesus was an incredible person, but there is nothing in the commercialization of his birth that truly holds to the meaning of his life. Again, there is an induced amount of guilt laid thick upon individuals whom choose to not participate in the commercial aspect.

VDay. Makes me want to laugh. Many people will be caught by their significant others by misdelivered flowers, jewelry, misplaced phonecalls, mispoken names, or other offenses which are seemingly easy to hide on most other days of the year. My heart goes out to those whose hearts get broken by this holiday; my heart goes out to the poor souls who spend too much money in an effort (and the belief that s/he needs to) to prove his/her love; and my heart goes out to those whose love is only expressed on this day.

Remember, love is a wonderful thing and should never be taken for granted. Love, contrary to commercial thinking, cannot be proven by expensive gifts or cards. Love is proven only by the acts of the person claiming to have it for another. Love cannot be measured by how much money is spent, what star restaurant is chosen, or what grade of diamond is given. The only true measure of love is the heart. How much of your heart have you been willing to give to another?

It is better to love and lose than to never love at all.
But, loss, ah yes, loss, is not about dollars and cents.
The loss is about losing part of your heart because you were willing to give something beyond that which money can buy.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
