2005-03-07 10:57 AM Dinner with Kenneth Starr... yep, that's the one Mood: mildly delighted Read/Post Comments (6) |
Hehe...and all I wanted was the license to practice law!?!? Hey, Rob: Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. : ) Okay, so after running around like a chicken with it's head cut off in the rain all day Friday, I was able to meet up with a friend for dinner. Al announced recently he will be moving to Austin, TX. I was not really surprised since he talked about it less than a year ago and has been unhappy in SoCal for awhile. In any case, I figured we should get together for dinner, catch up on the mundane and exciting details, and just spend some good old fashion time hanging out. Since I loved La Fondue so much with Jen and Rob, Al and I decided fondue sounded terrific. Dinner was amazing (we opted for Pinot Noir to go with it), the souls of the dying children sang "Happy Birthday" to another unfortuante person, and conversation was excellent. We realized we spent over three hours there as we walked back to the car; further evidence of the good conversation. We hung out for a bit of time at my condo before we had to call it a night for being so tired. Saturday, I spent with Rob. We ran some errands he needed to get done, went for lunch to a cafe near his place (delicious grilled cheese and roast beef sandwiches with perfectly crispy seasoned fries), and then headed back to his place to study and review for his next exam this Wednesday. Of course we managed to squeeze in some play time... LOL. Later in the evening, his grandma wanted to take us out for dinner. We went to this yummy Thai restaurant and ate soooooo much food. The place was filled to the brim with Thai patrons; the first sign of a great ethnic food restaurant. Earlier in the day I received a call from Joey, one of my neighbors, telling me there was going to be a pajama-jammy-jam for Sauce's BDay. I thought about not going since their extra-curricular activities can be excessive when larger numbers of people are around. Well, I did get home in time and decided I would head over for awhile. I had a couple drinks with them, hung out, had a good time, then came back home - to bed. Sunday I planned to be at Rob;s early enough for pancakes, but woke up and got sick to my stomach. I think there was so much smoke in such a small place last night that my tummy could not take it. Rob said his stomach was fine, so likely it was not the food. It settled down a little bit later and I headed over to his place. We went over more of the info for his exam, then ate what was left of our sandwiches for lunch. Following more review, we watched Pirates of the Carribean. We wiped out some leftover Thai food and had some carnitas for dinner. Both of us were pretty wiped out, so I headed back to my place fairly early. After watching Cold Case Files, I went unconscious. I am sleeping fairly normally again, aside from waking up occasionally from nightmares. Going back to sleep pretty quickly afterward though... Yes, I am getting to it - the dinner thing. Tonight. Straus Institute (the Master's program at Pepperdine's Law School) invited two dozen students to attend a dinner tonight with it's staff, faculty, and the law school Dean, Ken Starr, at Magic Castle. I know, I know, I know; not particularly an invitation anyone would think I would accept. What the heck. I met Mr. Starr while I worked in DC, but I should meet him again as an alumni of Pepperdine. I can handle it. Besides, I really enjoyed the faculty of Straus (especially the ones that went to Europe for our seminar.) The staff has changed somewhat since I graduated, but none of the staff have ever been people I dislike. As for the alumni, there are some I can live without, but enough people will be there that I can practice my techniques in avoidance. Hrmm... I have no idea how they came to choose who made the "list" of invites, but it will be interesting to see who the other 23 people are... I know Prof. Robinson is *dying* to get the sordid details of my life to date. This is the professor who urged me to reconsider any actions I would later take while in Sweden. Aw, so sweet for him to watch out for me... Alot of good it did. *guffaw* He wil be rather surprised when he gets no personal info tonight. Nope. The less Pepperdine knows, the better. I do not exactly follow or abide by the "rules" of their game, or anyone else's. In any case, it will be a lovely evening, I am sure. I chose the Filet dinner, so if nothing else, the food should be good. (It was the last time I was there.) I will fill y'all in tonight, depending on what time I get home, or tomorrow morning before I head out - promise. Read/Post Comments (6) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
