Hehe...and all I wanted was the license to practice law!?!? Hey, Rob: Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. : ) As you all know, I had a political dinner to attend on Thursday. Awesome networking opportunity among the other political advantages. Anyhow, the dinner was at the SR IHOP, in the meeting/banquet room. The way IHOP does events like this is to offer five selections from the menu, which the attendees can choose from upon arrival. Folks, not a single one was pancakes. Unbelievable. IHOP, and no pancakes on the selection list. It really was okay though since Friday morning was a pancake breakfast for the Congressman I used to work for at the Valencia Country Club. After the IHOP *scandal*, I was truly vying for pancakes come Friday morning. After some amazing Newhall coffee and chit chat with friends, networking with local leaders, and a brief chat with the Congressman, I headed for the buffet. Imagine my shock and horror when the "Pancake Breakfast" to which I was invited served NO pancakes! Me? Go to the event planners? No way! I went directly to Buck, the Congressman, and communicated my dismay - particularly after the IHOP dinner the night before. He laughed and said that he and Scott, the District Director, had discussed who would say something; they both knew it would be me. They both know of my undying devotion to pancakes. After his good hearty chuckle, I went to wallow in my coffee and the food that, not being pancakes, was offered. Traumatizing; that is what those two days were. Following the breakfast on Friday, I droppped Michael, another cohort in the political calendar, off at LAX and headed to a mediation I scheduled. No shows. F***ers. I do get to keep the deposit, but still. Afterward, I had to make a couple stops before meeting up with Rob to study. By studying Friday night, we were able to make our plans to take our first road trip together on Saturday to Paso to visit Lisa, Nick, and the new addition to the family, Oji. Saturday morning, I headed over to grab Rob for his dentist appointment. We planned it so that we could leave directly from the dentist's office. While he was in the appointment, I made a last minute stop at the grocery store to pick up extra doggie chews so that Oji could share with Skye, his "girlfriend". I had the wine for Lisa's and Nick's birthdays in the car, but also picked up some white wine we could drink with dinner. Once Rob and I got on the road, it was too late to take the 101, so we opted to go through Bakersfield, cutting about 30-45 minutes off the trip. Even after leaving late, we still made it to Paso within fifteen minutes of our planed arrival time. Rob and I had to stop at the 46/5 interchange for some food. After inhaling our Arby's sandwiches, we got back on the road and made excellent time through the 46 channel. So cool to see Lisa and Nick again! I got to give Lisa her "sum'in sum'in" which was a Happy Bunny keychain. It reads something like, "If life gives you lemons, squirt lemon juice in your enemies' eye." Too funny. She loved it. I have had their BDay cards for so long, but never did get around to signing them. So, after giving them their cards and wine, I signed the cards. Both cards were perfectly suited for each of them! We all stood around the kitchen and bar chatting up a storm. Eventually, the men went and sat at the table and were talking about LAPD and the Navy, and going through old pics of Nick. Lisa and I were in the kitchen making guacamole and getting stuff ready for Lisa to make enchiladas. *drools* Mmmmm-mmmm-mmmm, those were some good enchiladas, too! We opened a chocolate wine and had a bit of it while we were cooking. The alcohol content is extremely high in that wine, so we all had just a tiny bit in scotch glasses. After that, we switched over to the Sauvignon Blanc. It went very well with dinner, even though it is not a typical pairing for mexican food. After dinner, Lisa and I went to do some journal stuff, but did not have much success. We were feeling too much of the effects from the wine to be able to type or navigate through the "www". Rob poked his head into the office and said we needed to get going. Since he was driving us home so I could drink with Lisa and Nick (Rob is not particularly a drinker, but on few occasions, and certainly not a drinker at all during the Academy), we headed out pretty soon after. For those details, see the next entry... We made it home just after midnight and crashed out. We were able to sleep in on Sunday, which Rob does not get to do too often and which I was thankful for since I ended up with a wine-headache. Anyone who has had one knows what I am talking about. Nothing helps. Eventually, it did subside. Rob and I ordered in some Chinese food, watched the Formula 1 race in Italy (rooting for Ferrari), and laid back in bed for a nap after the race. Around 3:30 we headed back over to his place, studied for the exam he has today, and had some dinner. On my way home, I talked to Lisa and managed to stay awake. Once I made it home, I watched Cold Case Files and changed my bed. Crawled in and fell asleep sometime in the middle of the show. This morning, I was planning to head over to the parental units place to do some *free* laundry and to have dinner with them to hear all about their Mexican cruise and see the pics. Not happening after all. I got a call from the contractor who will be doing the repair work on my patio; he needs to come take measurements today. So, I get to sit around and wait for him between the hours of 12 and 6pm. Oh well, I do not have alot of energy after this weekend, so I do not mind being stuck at home. I finally got to catch up on here and will get some other cleaning done around the condo today. Tomorrow and Wednesday I have the contractor here to tear up the old patio and to lay down the concrete for the new patio. Tomorrow, I insisted he be out of here by 3 so I can head out for an Alumni Wine and Cheese / Art Gallery viewing event with my mom at my alma mater. It is always a very nice event and time I enjoy spending with my mom. This week also includes the joys of reading Property and Con Law. Wooo-Hoooo!!! %- P ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
