2005-07-05 4:01 PM Interviewed by Brainsalad Mood: like a prisoner in my own head... Read/Post Comments (1) |
Hehe...and all I wanted was the license to practice law!?!? Hey, Rob: Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. : ) ______________________________ The Rules 1. Leave me a comment saying you want to be interviewed. 2. I will respond by asking you five questions of my choosing. 3. You will post the questions and the answers to the questions on your journal. 4. You will include this explanation and offer to interview other people in the post. 5. When others ask to be interviewed, you will give them five questions. The following list of questions were given to me by Brainsalad. 1. I get the impression that law school has made you more cynical towards the legal profession. Is that an accurate assessment? If so, what was it that you learned that resulted in the change? Yes, quite accurate. However, I must admit, my cynicism began while working for the District Attorney's Office prior to law school. Inept. That is about the only word to sum up the system of the office I worked in. 2. You do a lot of mediation I take it. My own experience with the process has been mixed. What is it you like about mediation, and when do you think it works best? I have some, but very little, experience in litigation related mediation. In the experience I did have, eh, I would say it is a toss up. However, in dealing with juveniles, their parents, their comrades, etc. it works splendidly. It gives them the feeling of some empowerment and control over what is happening in their life, rather than the day to day of being told what to do by others. Also, it allows them to think outside the box, be creative in solutions to problems, and enables them to see things from another perspective than their own - mostly because they do not feel threatened in admitting that they may not be right in a mediation setting. Lastly, it permits them to open up, rather than remain defensive (particularly when mediating with parents.) 3. You've mentioned that you were in some sort of accident a few years ago, and I've read about some medical treatments you've undergone. So what exactly happened to you? Well, the accident was WAY back in college - I was hit by a drunk driver while I was on my way to school. I flipped, rolled onto another car, then slid off the freeway. Whoopsie-daisee. I have a shoulder injury which therapy only helped, to a degree. Surgery was never an option because the doc felt that the scar tissue would create a worse impingement than what I already have. My other treatments are not generally things I want to go into publicly, but the gist of the overall problem is that I have a blood deficiency which inhibits my blood from clotting. 4. You tend to lean right politically. The right is made up a bunch of different groups including the religious right, the libertarian economic types, and the pro-military wing. How would you characterize your own beliefs? I fI may, I will break my idealogoies into a few parts - socially, I am quite liberal; financially, I am very conservative; militarily, I am very conservative; and well, for lack of a better term, when it comes to social programs, I am ultra conservative. 5. There is no 5. Hrmm... 6. Why is there no 5? Because you did not write one? 42. Even though you still haven't passed the bar, you seem to have a lot of connections in the legal field, and potentially a lot of leads when you finally are admitted (sometime later this year). Where did those leads come from for you, and what sort of effort went into getting them? My legal and political connections come from past work experience, political involvement, and simply being out, about, and social. Oh, it was supposed to take effort? My bad. 8- P ![]() Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
