NBA Draft and playoffs got me to thinking...

Who would be on my "all time" NBA roster? Well, let's start with the greatest player of all time, Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain. Please don't try to argue that Michael Jordan was the greatest. Come on, WIlt was a 7 foot Jordan. Watch the old highlights of Chamberlain and how agile he really was. Wilt once led the NBA in assists. No one will ever match his scoring or rebounding records. Wilt also NEVER fouled out of a game and once average more than 48 minutes per game for an entire season. I KNOW the games are 48 minutes long, but he did play every single minute of every game and also played a few overtime games as well. That was the easiest choice. Besides, it's my page, so I can write whatever I want.

The rest of the starting five would have Jerry West and Oscar Robertson in the backcourt. Both can handle the ball, and both can shoot. Oscar was a very good rebounding guard as well. This allows me to slide Jordan to small forward. He is big enough and athletic enough to match up with any of the smaller forwards. My power forward is Elgin Baylor. I realize he was only 6'8" but look at his rebounding numbers. He was a much better rebounder than even the centers of today. He would have been a tough match up for anyone- too fast for the "bigs" and could shoot from anywhere. Just think, Chamberlain , West, and Baylor were once on the Lakers at the same time...of course, they were certainly not in their prime at the time.

On the bench...Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, even though I never cared for him. Bill Russell, probably the greatest defensive player of all time. Now comes the hard part, there are loads of folks to chose from. Magic Johnson makes the team as he can play all five positions, if needed and I just plain like him. I am thinking about recent stars like Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Shaq...but then I still should have Bob Petit, George Mikan, Pistol Pete Maravich, Bob Cousy, Rick Barry (?), this is too difficult. SO here is what I am going to do, name my starting five and see if anyone will comment. Name your own reserves...

C Wilt Chamberlain
F Elgin Baylor
F Michael Jordan
G Oscar Robertson
G Jerry West

C Kareem ABdul Jabbar
F Bill Russell
F Julius Erving
G Magic Johnson
G Bob Cousy

Reserves: Bob Petit, Elvin Hayes, Karl Malone, Bob McAdoo

ANd here's another fun one to ponder...my all time dunking team

CLyde Drexler, Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, COnnie Hawkins, Dr. J, Wilt (when he was allowed to- remember that they made it "illegal" because of Wilt, David Thompson, and the GREATEST DUNKER EVER...Darryl Dawkins (Chocolate Thunder). Don't even try to change my mind here...just watch them on www.youtube.com.
