I am sure that I am going to spell at least one of these names wrong- so please forgive me. I keep thinking about how the best have gone away. When I think about baseball, I think Mel Allen first (this week in baseball). OK, we stil have Vin Scully...but for how much longer? Jack Buck is ok...and I think John Miller is a "throw back" especially when he imitates some of the past legends. I absoultely can not stand (sorry Rambler) Ron Santo...he is such a "homer". Also, is it just me, or is Santo starting to sound like a deranged John Madden? There is one I miss...even though he made no sense at all...John Madden. And the one I miss most of all is the voice of NFL film...and here is where I screw up the spelling...John Chrisanda(?) I have never seen his name in writing...I even tried to look it up...help me. Krissenda? You know the one I mean...."the frozen tundra...etc". I miss Keith Jackson doing college football. AND...OF COURSE...Monday Night Football with Howard Cosell and Dandy Don Meredith. I still think of Chick Hearns with I think of Lakers basketball. I grew up with Bay Area sports- the REAL Bay Area- Warriors, Giants, A's, Raiders, 49ers....we had some decent announcers. When I was a kid...I use to stay up past my bed time with the transistor radio turned on low...listening to Lon Simmons saying..."it's bye, bye baby" when Mays or McCovey belted one out. I remember Bill King saying "it's 'hold em' Rollie time" when Rollie Fingers entered the game...in the 7th inning (for a 3 inning save). How about the same Bill King doing a Warriors (San Francisco Warriors) game from the Cow Palace, and saying "Holy Toledo" when Rick Barry did something amazing? Now, the damn announcer want to be the whole show by themselves...I can not listen to a Yankee home game because of John Sterling...he wants everyone to listen to him...I really hate that damn "the Yankees win...the Yankeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees win" crap. Does he ever say..."the Yankees lose...the Yankeeeeeeeeeeeeees lose?" How about you...who were your favorites? Who do you hate?
