muffins, lasagna, and sheep

After days of kvetching, today we should finally be able to watch "The Two Towers". I reserved a copy from Morrisons, and they promised to have it waiting for us this afternoon.

So the good news for everybody is that I'll stop complaining about it here!

Last night turned out to be really good. I made apple muffins from Karina's recipe, and they turned out wonderfully. I ate three and had to restrain myself from eating more! Then I made lasagna for dinner. It's amazing how empowering it has been to learn how to cook. Two years ago, I would never have dared to try cooking lasagna. Last night, as I was coming downstairs, I thought, "Wow, something in the oven smells good!" Then I did a double-take. "Wow. I made it!" Very nice. :)

And, even better, I did some writing last night that felt really good, and the PhD is progressing nicely. So I won't have to feel too guilty when we spend tonight watching 3-4 hours of LOTR DVD.....

Only two more bits of news.

(1) I got my subscriber's copy of Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, my favorite magazine, in the mail today. Woohoo! I've only read the first story ("The Icthyomancer Writes His Friend with an Account of the Yeti's Birthday Party", by David Schwartz) so far, but that was very funny and smart. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the issue.

and

(2) We knew it had to happen someday.

Nika has finally discovered that there are sheep living in the field behind our house.

Ohhhh, the border collie's fascination.....
