Oh, this has been a great extended honeymoon.

This morning I woke up before Patrick and went downstairs to check email as a time-killer. I opened up my inbox and found a really kind congratulatory email from an editor--for my sale of a short story to Strange Horizons! Woohoo! I've sold "Some Girlfriends Can", and it should appear sometime around mid-October!

When I read the email, I gasped so loudly it woke up Patrick and Nika upstairs. They came running down to see what had happened, and we all danced around with happiness. I put on my tiara. Since the story is, after all, all about learning to accept yourself for who you really are, I felt no shame about dancing in a combo outfit which included not only a sparkling tiara but also Cool-Max hiking socks. Very, very, very happy. My first pro sale since Clarion! And to my favorite magazine, as well, which makes it all the better.

I just made Celebration Smoothies (since we got a blender with wedding gift vouchers, we've been making fruit smoothies every day!) and stuck them into the fridge so they'll be cold and ready for us in a couple of hours. (Blueberries, strawberries and bananas, with a splash of apple juice--yum!) We're planning a lunch out to celebrate.
