I wrote my regulation 1,000 words of Kat this morning, ending in the middle of a scene, then thought wistfully about the rest of the scene for the next half hour as I surfed the internet (while trying very hard to stick to the Ernest Hemingway mode of writing, i.e., stop when you know what's coming next!)...and then finally gave up and wrote another 1,000 words, polishing off Chapter Ten. That's more than I've written in a looooong time, and it felt so good! I feel a bit winded, mentally, now, but in the best possible way. I love it when that happens.

(And yes, I know there are lots and lots of people who write at least 2,000 words every single day, or even 4-5,000, which always makes me drool with envy...but for me, writing this much in a day is a Big Deal. Really!)

Now I can't wait for the day to be over so Patrick can come home from work and I can read to him! I love living with my best friend. :)

Of course, now I have no idea what's going to happen in the next scene (so, oops, Ernest may have been right)...but with luck, I'll work something out by tomorrow morning.

Other good things from the last couple of days:

  • I loved SarahP's post on writing and parenthood. It's definitely worth reading the comments on this post, too! And as a followup, check out Rebecca Ramsey's On Juggling Writing and Family, which has a highly sensible First Commandment about housecleaning: Lower Your Standards!

  • Escape Pod just republished their podcast of my story "Some Girlfriends Can" in Escape Pod Classic! Hooray!

  • For all you medieval fantasy writers out there...check out The Feudal Court of Sir Hugo Quiz! (Via Walter Jon Williams) I, of course, completely failed this quiz...this is why I'm an 18th-/19th-century writer-girl!
