"Get the Party Started"!

I'm about 850 words into a new short story, and from its VERY tentative working title (see: subject line!), you can probably guess the kind of playlist I'm listening to as I write. I love making playlists for stories - it's procrastination and productivity all in one! Here's my Party Music Playlist:

  • Shirley Bassey, "Get The Party Started"
  • Edith Piaf, "Non, je ne regrette rien"
  • The Pogues, "Wild Cats of Kilkenny"
  • Anita O'Day "Sing, Sing, Sing" (RSL Remix)
  • The Doors, "Touch Me"
  • Pulp, "Common People"
  • The Magnetic Fields, "I Think I Need a New Heart"
  • Kirsty MacColl, "In These Shoes?"
  • Shania Twain, "Party for Two"
  • Kirsty MacColl, "Treachery"
  • The Verve, "Bittersweet Symphony"

  • Most of my short stories are fairly dark, but not this one! This time I wanted to write something that was just fun. No matter how the short story turns out, every time I put on its playlist, I feel happy. So it's kind of like a party at my writing desk...

So here's a Friday, pre-weekend question: what do you guys think of as good party music? Any suggestions for songs (or genres) I should add to my list?
