This morning after breakfast, I wrote almost 1500 words and FINISHED the first draft of Kat by Starlight!!!! Hooray! Best of all, right after typing the words "The End", I read the whole last section out loud to Patrick, and he said he really loved it. So I am feeling doubly happy right now. :)

And I've now finished my first two write-a-thon goals! All I have left to do by August 1st is to revise one more short story. When I first signed up for the write-a-thon, I thought I might be taking on more than I could handle with the goal of revising two stories and finishing Kat by Starlight, but it's turned out perfectly - the write-a-thon has worked really well for me as a motivator. I'll definitely be signing up for it again next year. And I'm so grateful to the people who've already signed up to sponsor me in it - thank you!!! (If there's anyone else who's been thinking about it but hasn't gotten around to it, you can still sign up through my write-a-thon page anytime before August 1st.)

But most of all, thank you to everybody who's been cheering me on in comments and emails as I neared the finish line for this novel!!! It's really meant so much to me. You guys are awesome!

Patrick and I just got back from a fun trip out, first stopping at the library (where I picked up the fascinating-looking Clean: An Unsanitised History of Washing, by Katherine Ashenburg), then going out to the Borders café for a draft-completion celebration. Mmmm, chocolate creme frappucino - I can still taste it!

I am feeling really good right now. :)
