Will the discovery of age-reversal using nanobiotech happen anytime soon? I believe so.

I believe that just as crabs may grow a new claw, thus will technology one day allow tiny machines in the body to constantly repair any cell damage or restore injuries to original design.

These could also be used for frivolous purposes such as keeping hair a certain length or even style without the need to cut it as we do now. No need to shave, let the machines you live with tweak the mechanism in the cells and voila!

There would be no disease. Stamina and vitality increase. Dial in a dream or even record them! Senses would be heightened. Chronological age is not then discernable from the subtle clues of skin tone or wrinkles.

We may choose any body style or face we wish to wear. Gender may even be a matter of choice. Want to move parts of the human body to a more convenient location?

In other words, humans have always been an extremely adaptable animal. I believe that if scientists had programmable control of machines on the molecular level, it's only a matter of time before the distinctions between "human beings" is very much more than today's mere variations of skin tone, height, weight, ethnicity, etc.

Ah, the variations would be as endless as technology and the law would allow. How about a second set of arms, anyone? Ever wanted a prehensile appendage?

How about a literal green thumb or three? Sprout some gills or wings! Enjoy "superhuman" strength. Think of bullet-proof skin and eyes that see 10,000 times sharper than we do today. Name a feature on a human being and either toggle to other choices, delete, rename, repair, change, edit, improve on the limited choices of today.

Our pets could talk to us with such machines. We could be any shape, and we could always reboot. We could store ourselves in conveniently near-light form for traveling between stars, shape-shifting back to any physicality with features required for the new environment we will find upon arriving.

Think of these and more amazing feats, and all we're asking is for the human race to decide that we would like to have this agreed-upon some future, for the betterment of all humankind, instead of bristling at the least provocation and deciding to shock and awe the rest of the world.

We need to think of ourselves as Human People with diverse tribes. When we encounter non-Earth Intelligence, the differences among all humans will shrink away and we will finally realize to fight among ourselves is recklessly inefficient.

Pointless aside: In post-9/11 thinking, we should "Humanize The Galaxy"! Think of it as our little way of Shocking our Awesome Stellar Neighbors. (Yeah, and besides, maybe they're a threat to us...)
