On A National Holiday, A Remembered Birthday

According to common knowledge and Wikipedia, "Veterans Day is the American name for the international day called Armistice Day. It falls on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I."

My brother Peter was born on November 11, 1939, (Please correct me if I'm wrong on his birth year!), in Washington, D.C., a little over nine years before I was born.

Peter always enjoyed his own National Holiday, on his birthday; he could always count on getting the day off, with pay, for whatever work he was doing at the time!

Today, I celebrate Veteran's Day. I will be thinking of the sacrifices that American soldiers and their families have given over the years of our Nation. If we separate our current inept foreign policies and our "leaders" from the brave soldiers who are ordered about by their "superiors", the soldiers have my deep respect. Thank You, Very Much!

Today, also, I will celebrate Peter's Birthday. I will be thinking of the powerful influence he had on my life and that he very much helped shape the person I have become. Thank You, Brother!

BTW, I think it was Peter, (perhaps it was me?), that observed that one could be a Vereran of the "War on Poverty" or the "War on Drugs", (two more wars that America lost... or perhaps, never intended to win?)
