My Viewpoint, As An Independent Voter

Consider that it has been a goal of some Republicans to squeeze the "Government Of The People" down to nothing.

As Grover Norquist stated, "to shrink government down to the size where we can drown it in a bathtub."

Consider that Bush's administration and the (up until last year) Republican-controlled Congress, have managed to DOUBLE the National Debt in just 6 years! Can you say, "Borrow and Spend"? But who cares, "IT'S ONLY TAXPAYER MONEY"!. (Oh, I forgot, that hardly counts, as it's ONLY our Great-Grandchildren who will continue to pay the interest on such massive debt. It's not as if WE should care, right?)

Consider that these "leaders", that we "elected", have used Our Constitution as their personal toilet paper. They have managed to forsake any adherence to The Geneva Conventions. They have taken away many of our Rights, guaranteed by Our Constitution. They have put mediocre, yes, incredibly incompetent cronies into positions of power over The People, thereby making a mockery of government. What a travesty!

The seizing of power (a "Coup d'Etat", in my mind) by having a Right-Wing-stuffed Supreme Court decide who "won" the election in 2000, a 5 to 4 decision, which, if it had been held in any Third-World country, would have been denounced as an illegal election, (and following it up in 2004 with another fiasco), the lying about reasons to go to war, (the aftermath of) Katrina, the injustice of Guantanamo, the torture-riddled Abu Graib, the forgetful (and deceitful) Alberto Gonzolas, the inept Rumsfeldt, the lying Cheney... these have all contributed to a reduction of faith in American Values, resulting in about 70% of the American Public who don't support the government.

What better way to drown The Constitution? It all looks like a Common Strategy, to me.

Do I think electing a Democrat in 2008 will change any of this? No. They are as complicit as the Republicans. They voted for the Iraqi war, and continue to fund it. They refuse to consider the only way that Justice Will Be Done: Impeachment! They take the Lobbyist's Money and Sell Us (the Middle Class) Out (for pennies on the Billion Dollar$)!

Will we see a fair Presidential Election in 2008? Have all the problems of Diebold machines, and ballot-stuffing and ballot-withholding and so many other dirty tricks, been solved (or even debated)? I think not. (There are continuing court cases to this day over the elections in Ohio, the swing state for the entire outcome of the election!)

Please, go ahead and vote next year. We're given an opportunity every 4 years to throw the bums out. (Then two new bums take their place and We, The People, suffer the consequences some more.)

I will vote, too. I will vote for any viable 3rd-Party Candidate. This will, hopefully, send a signal, that We, The People, are sick to death of the charades the power-brokers put over on us, election after election. Enough!

Will my vote be wasted? Probably. But just think about 2/3 of The People voting for a 3rd-Party Candidate! Would that be enough to clean up the corruption, the cronyism, the waste, the earmarks, the massive debt, the torture, the injustice? Could we then debate the massive problems we have before us without calling one side “helping the enemy” or “not supporting our troops”?

That is my only hope left. (But I think it is too late already.)
